How should we treat such a situation? How to control your workers who are relaxed by the fact that their company kindly pays for a mobile? It's in a human nature: freebies are used without a necessity. And if in the beginning a worker may afford himself only a couple of personal calls or SMS messages per month ("I need to call mum, it is very urgent!"), you may safely add an extra digit or two to the total just a bit later.

Two sides of a coin - two sides of a service
So, as we said before, a new product from Alex Yashin is a phone call and SMS monitoring system.
It consists of two key components: a client and a server part.
1 - a client application is installed on a mobile phone in order to transfer information regarding each phone call and SMS to a server.
2 - a server part stores the information gathered from all connected phones and allows to generate reports on calls and SMS for a desired period. This part comes with an open source code which simplifies the addition of custom report types and functionality enhancements.
Call and SMS Reporter for Symbian
Call And SMS Reporter is that very client application made for mobile phones based on Nokia S60 (2nd, 3rd and 5th editions; the complete list of phone models can be found on Nokia website). It also works under other editions of Symbian OS: 2nd and 3rd editions of UIQ.
Call And SMS Reporter:
- loads during phone enabling and finishes its work while switching off;
- supports data transfer via GPRS and WiFi;
- can work with either one or several Internet access points. All you have to do in order to configure an access point is to get access parameters from your mobile operator and set your mobile phone options in accordance with these settings;
- does not provide a user interface and works by itself in a completely automated mode.

Let's make some comparison in order to assure you as well.
For example, there is a web server at www.flexispy.com. This is a spy program which transfers the information from a mobile to its own (!) server. Of course, a user can retrieve it from there, but the main thing is that the server is not his own. Therefore, the administration is able to access your information as well and you may not be confident about its privacy and security.
On the contrary, Call and SMS Reporter works on its (your!) own web server and controls the information without any external access.

Preparing to setup
In order to be able to setup Call And SMS Reporter application on a mobile phone working under Symbian OS version 9 (its versions include 3rd and 5th editions of S60 and 3rd edition of UIQ) you need to get an electronic signature.
How can you do it? Just follow the steps below:
- Follow to the "Open Signed Online" page. At the bottom of it, under the "Application information" heading you will see the "IMEI" field. Please, enter your mobile ID into this field. You can find it out by entering *#06# command in a waiting mode.
- Please, also enter your e-mail address which was used during the registration at SymbianSigned into the "E-mail" field.
- Next, you should upload a SIS file with the software (which you have already downloaded on your mobile phone) into the "Application" field. Remember: the program cannot be installed without a signature!
- After that, you are good to enter a protection code and check the "Accept legal agreement" mark in order to comfirm your agreement with terms and conditions.
- Finally, press the "Send" button and wait for the message containing the download link to the signed application to arrive in your email box. Follow this link in order to save the signed application on your Desktop.
Another (very important) P.S.
In case you are going to install the system on many devices and would like to simplify the process, you may easily exclude this step using Express Signed Online.
Tips and tricks:
- Remember that the file is provided for a single device only!
- Do not try to get signatures for several applications at once. The service will block simultaneous attempts.
- It is advisable to receive a single signature at a time, one after another.
Program setup
Please, use Nokia PC Suite in order to install the software.
- Connect your mobile phone to your PC. Please, add the phone to the system in case it has not yet been configured to work with the PC.
- Double-click the signed SIS file which you have downloaded on your Desktop.
- After that, follow the instructions of the installation wizard which will appear on the screen.
The changes will take effect immediately after the setup is complete. The only exception is phones based on UIQ2 or S60 2nd edition. In their case, it is necessary to perform a reboot in order to start the application.
Application removal (we hope you won't need this, actually!)
In order to remove the application from your mobile, all you have to do is:
- Enter the "Applications" folder via a phone menu and find the Call And SMS Reporter application.
- Select "Delete" at the menu.
- Follow the instructions of the uninstallation wizard.
Please note that in various models some menu titles and headings can be titled differently. Check your mobile phone's user manual for more information.
